Emmanuel U. Osayande

Emmanuel U. Osayande is a PhD Candidate in History and African and African American Studies at Harvard University and a JD candidate at Columbia Law School. His interests straddle public international law, international human rights law, legal history, international relations, urban governance, and African history and studies. Osayande holds an A.M. in African and African American Studies from Harvard and an M.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds a B.A. in History and Strategic Studies (International Relations) from the University of Lagos, where he broke a 52-year-old academic record. His publications have appeared in journals such as the African Research Review and the Canadian Journal of African Studies/Revue canadienne des études africaines. His public-facing commentary has appeared on media platforms such as Channels Television and The Cable. Also, Osayande has taught several courses in law, international and world history, and African studies, among others He was awarded a teaching prize for outstanding teaching of the undergraduate student body at Harvard.
Osayande is a researcher at Participedia and a research fellow at the Nigeria Office of the French Institute for Research in Africa. He is also founder of Work to Know and Empower (WOKE), a nonprofit that intellectually empowers underserved youth.
